With generous donations from Bashir Dawood and Mariyam Dawood, a ground mosque, neighboring facilities and a park are planned to be built within three years in ASF City Housing Scheme, which is located on M-9 Highway Jamshoro District, in Karachi, Pakistan.

On 16th Jan 2020, Karachi, Pakistan, an agreement signed between Airport Security Force (ASF) Foundation- a welfare organization to provide charitable services for the best of its employees and the public at large in general – and Turkey based architecture firms, Oda Tasarim & LD Architects, for the design and architecture services of Bashir Dawood Mosque & Mariyam Dawood Park, which will be built on a land measuring 29.4 acres in total. During signing ceremony;


ASF Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Lt. Col Ghulam Habib Khawaja emphasized that “ASF City has been envisioned as ‘The Sustainable City of Pakistan’, which will serve as a model for the future independent cities in the country. The aim has been to plan and build a city, which provides its citizen a safe, comfortable, efficient and beautiful lifestyle, they were honored to host Turkish delegation and glad that an agreement was signed for the design of Bashir Dawood Mosque and Mariyam Dawood Park.”


Oda Tasarim is a well-known architecture firm from Turkey. Its founder and owner Mr. Kevork Özkaragöz, will be the lead architect of the Bashir Dawood Mosque & Mariyam Dawood Park, mainly responsible for architectural design of the desired masterpiece. Mr. Özkaragöz has been in service since 1989 and has specialized in architecture, construction & restoration projects.


LD Architect is a globally known interior design and decoration firm based in Turkey. Its founder Ms. Anastasiia Leonidova Doğan has been in business more than 15 years completed projects in different continents, countries and cities all over the world. Ms. Leonidova Dogan will be taking the lead of interior design of the Bashir Dawood Mosque in ASF Housing Scheme. Ms. Leonidova Dogan’s expertise comes with the harmonious and comfortable interiors, created projects both residential and public spaces.


Project coordinator, Mr. Erhan Dogan, the founder of LD Consulting, an expert in international business development stated that “With this project, we will not only build a mosque, we will also bridge “past” and “now” at an international level bringing different cultures together and melting in one pot in Pakistan. So excited to be part of this journey.”


Further meetings held between Turkish delegation and Mr. Naeem Akhtar, ASF Director of Housing and his local teams. Then, construction site is visited by Turkish delegation along with ASF Foundation executives, with participation of local engineering teams and consultants. During the site visit, important local data collected, possible changes of the design plans were discussed, important insights gathered.

Bashir Dawood Mosque

Bashir Dawood Mosque will be designed neo-baroque style with an ornate exterior, similarly to Büyük Mecidiye Cami (publicly known as “Ortaköy Mosque”), located near the Bosporus Strait connecting Asia & Europe in Istanbul, Turkey. It was completed in 1853, a boutique and beautifully designed masterpiece, one of the symbols of Istanbul. Architects of the mosque were Nigoğayos and Garabet Balyan. “Balyans” are the famous Armenian architects’ family who built most of the late Ottoman masterpieces, palaces namely, Dolmabahçe Palace, Çırağan Place, mosques and many more. Paintings on the ceiling/interior are done by well-known Russian/Armenian painter Ayvazovski.

Mr. Kevork Özkaragöz has designed and completed Mausoleum of the Balyan Architect Family, based on Balyans’ previous artworks. He has also done restoration of different projects of Balyan family. Mr. Özkaragöz is quite familiar with Balyan’s classic architecture style.

Bashir Dawood Mosque will accommodate approximately 1,500 prayers, while the courtyard area can host additional 3000 more people, totaling around 4,500 prayers. Based on the allocated land, Mariyam Dawood Park will be created, a beautiful relaxation and outing area around the mosque as well.

Mariam Dawood Park will be designed to attract families, providing greenery, walking spaces, water features, botanical garden consisting of different trees, a water pond with full of different kind of fish populations.

A walkway is placed over the water pond and strengthened the axis of arrival to the mosque with respect to Qibla direction. A separate deck is designed to allow visitors taking pictures, enjoy the view. The walkways designed in circular form, in this way, the mosque will be perceived by the visitors from different perspectives when approaching the mosque, ring of trees is placed on either side of the water pond and on the side of these circular pedestrian paths. An important part of Mariyam Dawood Park will be a memorial fountain, a martyrdom, dedicated to Shuhada of twelve brave ASF soldiers, who bravely and fearlessly fought back when a terrorist attack took place at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan on 8 June 2014. When the attack occurred; Ms. Mariyam Dawood and Ms. Farah Dawood, beloved daughter of Dawood family, were on an Emirates plane taxing the airport, unfortunately were stranded in the plane. Twelve ASF soldiers including other army officials limited in number defending civilians chest to chest with simple pistols against heavily armed terrorists with automatic weapons, a rocket launcher, suicide vests, and grenades. After long hours of heroic fight, their lives were saved when reinforcements reached the airport. It is that important moment of time, which influenced Mr. Bashir Dawood and Ms. Mariyam Dawood, to collaborate with ASF Foundation for praising those brave soldiers and for the Bashir Dawood Mosque & Mariyam Dawood Park project to show their respect and thankfulness.
